What Are Plantar Warts?

Plantar warts are small lesions that usually appear on the heels or other weight-bearing areas of your feet. Plantar warts are caused by human papillomavirus (HPV), which enters your body through tiny cuts, breaks, or weak spots on the bottom of your feet.

While they are not a serious health concern, warts can become painful and can multiply if not treated. Signs of plantar warts include a small, fleshy, rough lesion on the bottom of your foot, usually the base of the toes, forefoot, or heel. Upon close examination, you may see pinpoint dots in the lesion. Plantar warts may also be painful when pinched from side to side.

How to Treat Warts on Your Foot

There are many methods to remove warts on feet, including a variety of at-home topical medications and in-office techniques, such as freezing them off. However, the most recent advancement in wart removal technology is Swift.

What is Swift?

Swift is a state-of-the-art, FDA-cleared technology that has proven to be highly effective in the removal of plantar warts. It delivers low-dose microwave energy through a specialized probe that targets and effectively treats the underlying HPV by stimulating a natural immune response in the body. We like to say that we’re addressing the root cause, not the symptom. This allows us to remove the wart with a very low probability of them returning.

What to Expect from Swift Wart Removal?

Swift protocol involves between 3 and 4 treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart—aligning with the body’s natural immune cycle. Each treatment lasts only 5-10 minutes and is what we call a “sock off – sock on” treatment. Many patients are worried about pain, however, Swift can remove warts with only slight discomfort, limited debridement, no breaking of the skin, and no bandages. No home treatment is required between treatments and patients are able to resume daily activities immediately post-treatment.
